Peter Pan: Disney Classics

To contact us Click HERE

I don't know how they do it, but all things Disney seems to have a touch of magic.  Peter Pan: Disney Classics is the third Disney e-book I've reviewed, and just like The Jungle Book and The Aristocats, they have really found a way to bring the story to life.  Peter Pan is not just an e-book, it's an interactive app with more than a bit of pixie dust sprinkled throughout.

The most obvious thing you can do is read the story of Peter Pan, which in itself makes it worth the $3.99 price tag -- who wouldn't want a beautifully illustrated ebook for their kids to read on the iPad?  ou can use one of three pre-set Reading Modes -- Read to Me (with narration), Read by myself, and Use my recording (the child or parent or grandparent can record themselves narrating the story. Kids turn the pages by flicking their finger over the touchscreen or tapping the forward and backward arrows.  Touching characters on each page usually brings up their written names, and if they're in Read to Me mode, the narrator will say their names.  As the story unfolds, moving pictures and background music make reading the book a bit like watching the abridged version of the movie, so even the youngest of children will be entertained.

There are also fun activities sprinkled throughout the book -- coloring pages, puzzles (with 3 levels of difficulty), a matching memory game (also with 3 levels of difficulty) and an interactive Pan flute.  I love how the activities are set on a parchment paper background to give it a pirate-y look and feel!  It's just one example of how Disney pays so much attention to detail so that kids can really immerse themselves in Never Never Land.  All I can say is, I'm hooked!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary download of the app to review. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Get your outdoor space ready for the summer

To contact us Click HERE
We just had our first barbecue of the summer this week!  My sister and her kids are staying with us, so we fired up the grill and had hamburgers, hotdogs and corn on the cob for dinner.  We all agreed that hamburgers taste better when they're grilled and served outside :)  It was even worth all the trouble I spent cleaning the grill afterwards.   We always make it a point of cleaning our grill till it shines, no matter how lazy or full we feel, because it means we have a sparkling clean grill whenever we decide we want an outdoor barbecue.

Cleaning your grill is just one of the great tips that Mr. Clean, Bounty and The Home Depot are giving to help get ready for summer entertaining.  According to a recent Procter & Gamble (P&G) survey, only 25 percent of consumers clean their grills and only 20 percent of consumers clean their outdoor furniture. Yet keeping them cleaned can help them last longer. So, here are a few tips for getting your outdoor area ready for entertaining:

Maintain Your Outdoor Furniture – Keep it looking good all summer
Inspect your Deck – Give it good once over - check for loose nails, bricks, cracked concrete
Remove the Clutter – Clean up, power wash, remove unnecessary items/debris.
Accessorize – Add in the little touches (i.e., plants, outdoor lighting, lanterns, centerpiece)
Clean your Grill – Give your grill a clean start this season.

How do you get your back yard, porch or outdoor space ready for the summer? Whether all you need to do is give the place a quick sweep, or whether you have to scrub down the lawn furniture, don't forget that you can get everything you need to get ready at The Home Depot, including  Mr. Clean Outdoor Spray, Mr. Clean Outdoor Pro Magic Eraser and Bounty!

Win an outdoor care package from Mr. Clean, Bounty and Home Depot
One lucky Bonggamom Finds reader will receive:

* a full-size bottle of Mr. Clean Outdoor Spray ($3.97 retail value)
* Mr. Clean Outdoor Pro Magic Eraser ($9.97 retail value)
* one Bounty Paper Towels Roll ($1.97 retail value)
* a custom LeatherCraft 2-pocket natural colored canvas The Home Depot apron (.77 retail value).

Candy so natural, it's Unreal

To contact us Click HERE

What if I told you that I had found a candy bar with absolutely no artificial ingredients, that tastes like the most popular candy bars on the market today? What if I told you they were available at CVS, Walgreens, Target, and other places you find those other candy bars?  What if I told you they had the same shelf life and the same price as those other candy bars?  You'd tell me to get real, right?

Actually, you'd better get UNreal.  Because that's the name of the new candy bar that's taking parents by storm.  Unreal candy bars contain ingredients you can actually pronounce -- cane sugar, cacao, real milk, vanilla extract.  They don't contain corn syrups, preservatives, artificial flavors, artificial colors, or hydrogenated oils.  These candy bars aren't junk food, they're treats!

I recently attended a lunch hosted by Unreal and my friend Beth Blecherman of Techmama.  Beth usually sticks to her niche of curating and reviewing family-friendly tech products (which she is awesome at), but she's still a mom who looks for natural foods for her kids, and Unreal foods got her excited enough to want to share the product with all her blogger friends.

Their candy coated chocolates owe their beautifully muted colors (they remind me of Martha Stewart's Araucana chicken eggs!) to beetroot juice, turmeric root, and purple cabbage juice, not red dye #40 or yellow dye #5 (great news for kids suffering from ADHD and allergies!).

Their Chocolate Caramel Peanut Nougat Bar tastes just like a Snickers bar!

Unreal makes 5 candy bars:
Chocolate Caramel Peanut Nougat
Chocolate Caramel Nougat
Candy Coated Chocolate
Candy Coated Chocolate with Peanuts
Peanut Butter Cups

My favorites?  Definitely the Peanut Butter Cups and the Chocolate Caramel Nougat.  The Chocolate Caramel Nougat is supposed to taste like a Milky Way bar; I think it tastes even better!  The Peanut Butter Cups taste just like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, only a tad less sweet.  Actually, all the Unreal bars taste a bit less sweet, probably because they don't have corn syrup.  This seems to make the flavor of both candy coated chocolate varieties seem a bit less chocolatey to me -- but all 5 varieties are definitely worth a taste.

The best news is, you won't have to hunt for it in obscure health food stores or expensive gourmet confectioners -- Unreal candy bars will be available at CVS, Walgreens, convenience stores, grocers that regular people shop at, at the same price as other candy bars!  Make no mistake, it's still candy, so you can't pig out on it without seeing the results on your waistline.  But you get the satisfaction of knowing that every ingredient in that candy bar is there to make it taste better, not make it cheaper to mass-produce.  And that's for real!

Disclosure: I attended a blogger lunch sponsored by Unreal and brought home a complimentary assortment of Unreal candy bars to review.  The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

A guide to Cars Land

To contact us Click HERE

Cars Land is now open at Disney California Adventure, and crowds are flocking to Radiator Springs!  I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening, so I got to see all the attractions, stores and restaurants that visitors can enjoy in the newest addition to the Disneyland Resort.

Disney has really outdone itself in recreating the world of Cars.  With the majestic mountains in the background down to the beat-up signs and neon lights on the buildings, it is really easy to immerse yourself and imagine that you've entered Radiator Springs.

Cars Land is situated between A Bug's Land and Paradise Pier in Disney California Adventure. Once you enter Radiator Springs, you will find yourself walking on Route 66, with all the Cars Land attractions, shops and restaurants on either side of you.  Here's a bird's eye view of the layout:

Cars Land has 3 main attractions (locations are indicated by the yellow dots on the map above)

1) Mater's Junkyard Jamboree
This ride reminds me of the Mad Hatter Teacups in Fantasyland, except it's the cow-like tractors who are spinning round and round.  Visitors sit in trailers pulled by the tractors and spin around while Mater sings and square dance music plays.  Little kids love this ride!

2) Luigi's Flying Tires
Like bumper cars, with a twist.  Visitors sit in huge inflatable tires that hover a few inches off the ground, thanks to blasts of air that shoot from holes in the ground.  You can make the tire move by leaning back, forth and sideways.  To make things more fun, there are red, white and blue beach balls you can bump into, or throw around (if you can manage to pick one up -- they are huge!).

3) Radiator Springs Racers
This is Cars Land's E-Ticket attraction, and it's so cool, it really deserves a post of its own.  It's based on the Test Track ride at Walt Disney World's Epcot Center, but themed to Cars Land.  Visitors board a racecar and take a leisurely drive through Ornament Valley, then enter a dark-ride portion where they see animatronic characters from the Cars movies.  Then the cars split into 2 side-by-side tracks, and the last portion of the ride is a thrilling race to the finish, with lots of banks, bends and bumps.  It's a definite must-do!

Cars Land has 3 places to eat (locations are indicated by the green dots on the map)

1)  Cozy Cone Motel
Sally's motel has transformed into a food court with cone-themed fast food such as Chili Cone Queso, Route Beer Floats, PopCone (pop corn!) and Churro Bites, all serve in a cone.  I tried the Chili Cone Queso, and it is marvelous.  You get red chili served in a cone-shaped tortilla, topped with shredded cheddar cheese and corn chips.  There's also a chili verde version which is even better -- it's topped with Mexican Queso Fresco.

2)  Flo's V8 Cafe
This is Cars Land's sit-down diner, serving diner classics like meatloaf, mashed potatoes, pork loin, and more.  Their single-serve fruit pies are sooooo good -- they're called ugly crust pies but they taste anything but ugly.  Even if you don't want to eat there, it's worth a quick stop just to look at the decor. The front of the cafe looks like an old-fashioned gas station (where all the Cars characters pull up to refuel), the inside looks like a vintage diner, and the terrace opens up to lovely views of the Radiator Springs Racers ride.

3)  Fillmore's Taste In
Fillmore's Taste In is more of a snack bar, serving healthy snacks like fresh fruit (watermelon slices, cups with sliced apples, pineapple spears), water and juice.  True to Fillmore's nature, the place looks like a 60's hippie hut, complete with tie-dyed canvas and wind chimes.  Even the cast members who work here are wearing groovy tie-dyed aprons and flash peace signs!

Cars Land has 3 places to shop (locations are indicated by the blue dots on the map).  All 3 stores have tons of Cars-themed merchandise -- shirts, hats, pins, keychains and more.

1) Radiator Springs Curios
This is the store run by Lizzie, the widow of Radiator Springs founder Stanley.

2) Ramone's House of Body Art

3) Sarge's Surplus Hut
My boys loved this store because all the cast members there had pins to trade, and there were lots of Cars-themed pins for sale!

There are so many new things to see and do at Cars Land, you'll need at least half a day to soak it all in -- and if you will be visiting the Disneyland Resort this summer, when everyone wants to be the first to see Cars Land, you'll want to add an extra day.  On the first day, the Radiator Springs Racers wait time reached 6 hours, and it will probably be at least 1 hr all summer long!

Disclosure:  The Disneyland Resort provided media privileges, park admission for my family and accomodations for the duration of the Cars Land opening event. Other costs, including transportation, meals and extra days at the Disneyland Resort, were incurred at my expense. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

FIFA Soccer 12 on the PS Vita

To contact us Click HERE
Fans of English Premier League soccer have had an awesome season!  Alfie has been watching the EPL all his life, and he says this season was one of the most exciting ever.  All year long, the Premier League table has shifted and turned on its head, and the EPL Championship wasn't decided until the very last game of the season -- actually, until the last few minutes of the game!  That was when Sergio Aguerro scored a goal against Queen's Park Rangers to put Manchester City ahead, grab the title from Manchester United and make the Blue Side of Manchester the EPL Champions for the very first time!

After such an exciting finish, summertime is positively anticlimactic, but fortunately this year we're enjoying EURO 2012, and we have our quarterfinal soccer game in the Olympics to look forward to!  That's why 3Po and Jammy are enjoying their EA Sports FIFA Soccer 2012 game for the PS Vita more than ever.  They know all the EPL teams by heart, as well as many of the top European league teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, etc...) and National teams (Netherlands, Spain, Germany, etc...) so they really love being able to assemble their own teams and play them virtually against each other.

About the game:
EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer on PS Vita gives you the same physics-based, data driven technology that powers FIFA gameplay on PlayStation3. Take part in eight different game modes, including 11 vs. 11, Tournament Mode with over 50 real-world competitions, a full in-depth Career Mode, and compete online with Head-to-Head matches against your friends and gamers around the world. Create custom online leagues with your friends and compare your online performance with global and friend focused leader boards. Innovations that utilize a rear touch pad and touchscreen create an intelligent and unique gameplay experience. Rear touch pad shooting delivers pin-point accuracy and removes the element of “hit and hope” from shooting and touchscreen passing opens up the field of play for more creative and precision passing.

3Po and Jammy first discovered the FIFA Soccer games on the PSP, then on the PS3.  The PS3 version gives a much richer experience than the PSP version, but my sons tell me this latest PS Vita Version version is the best yet! Here's why:

* The graphics are superb, giving them a visual experience that matches the one on the PS3.  They've included details like the crowds and the stadium banners, and the players' features are more recognizable, so you can really see that it's Wayne Rooney slicing the ball past Joe Hart in the photo above.

* They can use the PS Vita's touchscreen and rear touchpad to pass the ball, throw it in from the sidelines, take a free kick or shoot for goal.   I'm told that serious gamers have some concerns about oversensitivity of the touchpad and lack of control, but my kids like it just fine (personally, I like the touchscreen feature because I don't have to fiddle with the complicated console controls!)

* They can easily form teams from years past, not just from the current 2011-2012 team lineups.  Players are always being traded from team to team, some retire from international competition, some retire for good, so teams are always changing, and this feature is great if you've been a fan over the years and have a favorite team.  For example, if I think that the Netherlands team that played in the 2010 World Cup should have won against Spain in the finals, I can easily assemble both 2010 teams and give them a rematch to see which team ends up winning.

FIFA Soccer 12 definitely engages my boys for hours on end.  They really get into it, as though it were a real game on TV -- although I hear quite a bit of laughter when they play and have the soccer players do goofy things like miss a penalty kick or mess up a scissor kick.  I feel good knowing they're being entertained without having to virtually blow up helicopters or people's brains, and they have a good time playing the game they love, even when they're in the car and can't actually play it.  If you're a soccer fan and a gaming fan, the FIFA Soccer games are a must -- and there's no better way to get your kicks on the go than by playing FIFA Soccer 12 on the PS Vita!

Disclosure:As a PlayStation Family Blogger, I received a PS Vita loaner and assorted PS Vita game titles . The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Daily Lemon: The Hunger Games

To contact us Click HERE
Recently, the movie version of The Hunger Games came out (it was awesome). However, any good movie has its side effects, especially when hunky guys play the lead roles. **cough cough TWILIGHT** And now all the middle school girls can't stop talking about how "hot" Peeta was in the movie. So I don't think this next picture is entirely true:
This cartoon is just random, but i LOL'd so hard when I saw it:

This next one is a bit more "adult":
And who is that redheaded girl? I don't remember her from the book or the movie.

Anyway. One last picture:

Btw, if you have never heard of the hunger games, i suggest you get a life and read them. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Bye!

Daily Lemon: Sorry about yesterday...

Hi again!

I know, I know, yesterday i didn't post a Lemon. Maybe you were looking for it somewhere . . .

Or maybe you were looking for something else. Like a tail.
But I feel really bad about it, i really do! My internet connection was down last night, and i didn't get a chance to post :(. Still, i know what ur thinking- excuses, excuses. Kind of like this one . . .

Sorry guys, but sometimes you just have to face the facts.

THESE facts.
By now, you're probably really bored (and hungry, 'cuz SOMEONE went and eated ur cookie). Trust me, you're NOT the only one. Seriously, look at this guy!!!!

By now, you're completely sick of me and want to kill me. Good news! Here are some ways you could do it!!!!!!
 The Funny. . .

the creepy. . .
Or, the "MY BACK DOES NOT  BEND THAT WAY!"
Or, even better! How 'bout you NOT kill me, so i can get back to my randomness (and cuteness). Great! Everybody wins!
That is, until a knife comes out of my computer screen and stabs me to death.
Well, on that happy note,BYE Y'ALL!

Daily Lemon: Math

I hate math. it's one of those things your teachers say you will always need, no matter what you do. What century are they in? Nobody does math anymore, all you do is Google it on your "calculator". These pictures describe my feelings about math . . . almost. Plz tell me im not the only one who hates it!

GENIUS. Pure frickin' genius. STOP MATH FOREVER!!!!!!
Yay! I finally found it!!!!

i wish.

Best . Teacher .  EVER!!!!!!!
(By the way, the answer is OBVIOUSLY C. ftw!!!!!!)

Sorry, wrong picture.
(shuffling through pictures)
Ah, yes. Here it is.
        Nope, still wrong one.
Maybe this is it!!!!

No?
Fine, I give up. Maybe they're not so cute.
Especially when they start playing with inflatable sex toys.

Or practicing their kung fu on you.

Or . . . you get the idea.

 (old person impression) Stupid kids.
