Grocery Outlet Frugal Finds Giveaway

To contact us Click HERE

It never seems to end:  gas prices are going up, up, up, dragging the cost of living is up, up, up as well.    The prices of even basic items like milk and bread and fruit are getting ridiculous!  Fortunately, I have my mother's gene for saving.  From a very early age, she taught me and my siblings to get value for our money.  She never advocated buying cheap things; why bother, when cheap things break and end up costing you even more?  She taught us to buy the highest quality that we could afford -- but she taught us to hunt for bargains whenever we could.  Why pay more for an item if you can find exactly the same item somewhere else, for less?

My mother and Grocery Outlet Bargain Market are a match made in heaven. I introduced her to the store when she visited last year, and she couldn't believe she had been visiting the US for so many years without knowing about it!  She loves the fact that she can get the same brand-name goods she can find at regular grocery and supermarket stores, but for less.  She doesn't care that the packaging may be seasonal or promotional packaging that the manufacturer doesn't want to use anymore.  She doesn't care that a giant retailer ordered too much of one thing and decided to cancel half the order, so the manufacturer sold the rest to Grocery Outlet at a discount.  All she cares about is that it's not expired, it's in great condition, and she can buy it for less.  And that's all I care about as well, which is why I like to shop at Grocery Outlet whenever I'm in the area.

Grocery Outlet recently sent me a $25 gift card to see what bargains I could find.  Now that school is in session, I always need convenient, healthy snacks to pack in the kids' lunch, so I decided to restock our snack pantry with whatever I could find at Grocery Outlet.  Just look at all the goodies I was able to buy!  They are all items and brand I buy regularly -- and since I buy them all the time, I have a good idea of how much they usually cost, and I know they are cheaper at Grocery Outlet.

The kids love granola bars, and we always keep some around.  I scored a variety of bars at just $1.99 per box.

I try to limit the kids' juice intake, so I pack them flavored water instead of juice.  At $1.99 per box of 10, I can give them flavored water for recess and lunch!

The Pea's favorite snack is strawberry gelatin; it tastes great and it helps satisfy her appetite between meals.  I found them at Grocery Outlet for just $1.50 per 6-pack.

Blueberries are getting quite expensive now that they're out of season, so I don't buy them too often now, but I couldn't resist picking up a pint because they were just $2.50.  They could easily have cost up to $4 elsewhere!

The kids eat cherry tomatoes like they're candy, but they can cost up to $4 per pint.  I was able to get them at Grocery Outlet for $1.98.

I found fruit roll-ups for 50 cents each.  Admittedly, you can get that same price at regular groceries and supermarkets when they're on sale, but it's nice to be able to buy them without having to wait for them to go on sale.

The most expensive item in my shopping bag was a bag of trail mix for $4, for Alfie to keep at his office desk and munch on in the afternoons.  It could easily have cost twice that much, had he bought it at the deli in the lobby of his office building.

All those snacks, for just $25!  No, I stand corrected:  all those snacks, for just $24.40.  I even had 60 cents left, so I bought a couple of chocolate bars for a quarter each (hey, gotta finish up that gift card).    My receipt said I saved $17.03 by shopping at Grocery Outlet.  My mother would be proud of me!

Celebrate Halloween with See's Candies {Giveaway}

To contact us Click HERE

Halloween is almost here, and it's all about the candy!  With all the chocolates coming my way to tempt me, I have to be really picky.  I'm not wasting my calories on inferior chocolate, I want the good stuff!  That's why See's Candies are perfect for October -- their fall and Halloween chocolates and confections not only look good, they taste good. I've been a big See's Candies fan ever since I was a little girl and my relatives used to bring home cans of See's Toffee-ettes every time they traveled to the US.  I was hooked!  See's Candies are great any time of the year -- you'll never catch me saying no to a See's Walnut Square or a See's Toffee-ette! -- but their fall and Halloween gift packs are so adorable and whimsical, they are the perfect way to celebrate the season. They have chocolate ghosts, chocolate jack-o-lanterns, pumpkin truffles, pumpkin lollypops, orange creams, and other seasonal goodies.  They even offer their regular chocolates packaged in Halloween and fall-themed boxes!

See's Candies sent me a few of their Halloween and fall items to check out -- and boy have I been enjoying the product testing!  My family is falling all over themselves to help me, because we all love See's smooth, creamy chocolate and yummy fillings.  Here's what they sent me:

Fall Harvest Box
The Fall Harvest Box is a sweet little way to celebrate fall.  I can't believe you get all this candy -- 3 Molasses Chips, 6 Milk Chocolate Foil Balls, a Scotchmallow, a Dark Chocolate Chip Truffle, a Milk Chocolate Butter and a Butterscotch Square -- for just $6.65!  It makes a great little thank-you present for teachers or PTA volunteers, or an afterdinner treat for your book club.  See's also has a Trick-or-Treat Box which has the same chocolates on the inside, but with a Halloween-themed box cover, so you can hand them out as party favors or prizes for your next Halloween party!

Petite Boo Box

The Petite Boo Box is just the right size for an afternoon treat with a friend!  You get 6 See's chocolates in a cute circular box printed with an owl.  It's perfect to give out as a grownup Halloween party favor, or lay on a pillow for your Halloween houseguest, or to pack into a Boo Bag to leave on your neighbor's front porch!

Halloween Treat Box

The Halloween Treat Box is the grand poobah of Halloween presents!  You get all your favorite See's Halloween treats, presented in a gorgeous Halloween-themed box, wrapped up with a ribbon and gift tag.  There are more than enough goodies to keep you stocked up throughout the month:

A bag of Halloween Milk Chocolate Foil Balls
A bag of Orange Twists (they are melt-in-your mouth candies, like buttermints, but orange-flavored)
A Marshmallow Jack O' Lantern
A Foil Ghost
A Trick-or-Treat Box
A Haunted House Box (containing an assortment of Sugar Sticks, Lollypops, Halloween Milk Chocolate Foil Balls, and a Foil Ghost)

Everything is individually wrapped, so you can give some of the candy away -- but why would you want to??  With yumminess like this, I won't need to raid my kids' trick-or-treat loot bags to get my chocolate fix this Halloween!  Check out the full Halloween and fall collection at See's Candies online.

IHOP Signature Pancakes {Giveaway}

To contact us Click HERE

Fall is here, and IHOP's famous pumpkin pancakes are back!  Their #1 selling seasonal pancake is back, along with 2 other delicious varieties, to make up IHOP's new Signature Pancake collection.  Starting at just $4.99, they will be available at participating IHOP restaurants from October 8 through January 2013.  The three new Signature Pancakes are:

Pumpkin Pancakes
Made with real pumpkin, spices and crowned with creamy whipped topping. Pumpkin is the perennial #1 selling limited-time offer Signature pancake. Last year IHOP served 3.1 million pumpkin pancakes.

New York Cheesecake Pancakes
Griddled with real cheesecake pieces, then crowned with glazed strawberries and creamy whipped topping. More than 250,000 pounds of cheesecake were used last year for fans of this item.

Carrot Cake Pancakes
Rounding out this season’s offerings is an oatmeal spice pancake recipe featuring a sweet-savory mix of fresh, diced apples, shredded carrots, coconut, raisins, crunchy walnut pieces topped with whipped butter and a drizzle of cream cheese icing.

IHOP invited me and my family to try out the newest items on their menu, and boy did we had a fall feast!  The Carrot Cake Pancakes were Alfie's and my favorite.  They tasted just like carrot cake!  The Pea and Jammy loved the New York Cheesecake pancakes.  They couldn't taste the cheesecake bits in the pancakes, but they loved having strawberries and whipped cream (of course, they piled on the strawberry syrup, which is our family's favorite IHOP syrup flavor!).  3Po was so happy with his pumpkin pancakes, he wasn't even interested in trading bites with his siblings.  It just goes to show you, there's a Signature Pancake for everyone.

Much as we love pancakes, we wanted the full IHOP breakfast experience, so we had to go for IHOP's new Signature Pancake Combos (starting at $5.99).  Just choose from the 3 Signature Pancakes -- Pumpkin, Carrot Cake or New York Cheesecake, you'll get two pancakes in the flavor of your choice -- then combine it with any of these IHOP Egg Combos:
  • Ultimate Bacon & Sausage Combo: Three strips of crispy bacon, three pork sausage links, two eggs and golden hash browns
  • Bacon & Eggs Combo: Four strips of crispy bacon, two eggs and golden hash browns
  • Regular Combo: Two strips of bacon or two pork sausage links, two eggs and golden hash browns
  • Ham & Eggs Combo: A hearty grilled ham slice, two eggs and golden hash browns
  • Sausage & Eggs Combo: Four pork sausage links, two eggs and golden hash browns

Trust me, this is a LOT of food.  The Regular Combo gives you the least amount of food, and it's still too much for one person --2 eggs cooked any way you want, hash browns and 2 pieces of breakfast (either 2 sausage links, 2 bacon strips, or 1 of each) -- and don't forget, you still have those 2 Signature Pancakes!  It's all so yummy, I could probably inhale the whole thing (and feel full all day), but in the interest of good health you should probably share with a friend.  If you're extra hungry, share an Ultimate Bacon & Sausage Combo instead of a Regular Combo so you get 6 pieces of breakfast meat instead of 2.

If all that sounds too decadent for you, check out IHOP's Simple and Fit menu, with lighter options under 600 calories. I decided to be a good girl and ordered their new Whole Wheat Waffle with Blueberries, which comes with scrambled egg substitute and two slices of turkey bacon.  The waffle was excellent -- crisp at the edges and tender in the middle -- and it was nice to have fresh fruit to balance out my meal.  It's a HUGE meal, and all that yumminess is 510 calories.

We also tried IHOP's new flavored hot chocolates -- Gingerbread Hot Chocolate and Caramel Hot Chocolate.  Both flavors complemented the chocolate wonderfully!  The Gingerbread had a touch of spiciness that made me want to keep sipping and sipping, while the kids loved the sweetness of the caramel.  Again, portions are huge -- that's a gigantic mug, not a dainty cup -- so I recommend sharing.

We left with bursting stomachs and a resolve to visit IHOP in the near future.  What a yummy departure from the ordinary pancakes-bacon-and-eggs-breakfast!

Yurbuds Inspire for Women -- earbuds sized just right!

To contact us Click HERE

We all know men's and women's bodies are different. Different size, different shape, different composition, different chemistry, different needs.   That's why companies have separate lines of athletic shoes for men and women.  Same with athletic gear -- bikes, helmets, shinguards -- and clothing.  So why not earphones?

That's the idea behind Yurbuds' new Inspire for Women line of earbuds.  They are designed specifically to fit smaller ears, so they won't keep popping off when you are running.  They are sweat and germ resistant, and they come in cute colors like hot pink, teal, lime green, yellow, orange and purple.  Check out the pair that Yurbuds sent me to try out:

I'm so glad they sent me the hot pink ones, because it's October and Breast Cancer Awareness month!

Cuteness factor aside, they are really comfortable earbuds.  The buds are made with soft silicone, so they mold to your ear.  The set comes with a larger sized set of earbuds, but I found the smaller one to be just right.  In fact, at first I thought they were too big for my ear but after you get used to them you realize that they fill up the entire outer ear cavity so that you get good quality sound! These aren't noise-cancelling headphones, though, which is a good thing when you are running on the street.   You can still hear outside noises like cars and leaf blowers so you don't run into anything.   My only beef with these earphones is that they don't have a retractable case, so I have to deal with tangled wires all the time.  But if that doesn't bother you, these are the headphones to get.

TEN THINGS TUESDAY: Monogrammed for Mother's Day

To contact us Click HERE

Can you believe it's May already?  That means one thing in my book - Mother's Day is just around the corner!  Lately, I'm drooling over all things monogrammed, so here's my list of ten great personalized presents any mom is sure to love!

Double Duty Bag I'm Loving:  If there are two types of bags I adore, they're clutches and cross-bodies and this sassy number from Tiny Tulip can be either.  Pair the versatility with the bright, bold color options, and I'll take one of each!

Cute Cuff I'm Loving The Enamel Initial cuffs from C. Wonder are simple and elegant, and I love the idea of wearing a set of them with each of your family member's initials.

Initial Ring I'm Loving:  This sterling silver monogram ring from Kraftshop has a beautiful vintage feel to it.

Wrap I'm Loving:  I don't know about you, but I live in pashminas.  They're the perfect accessory in my book, and this monogrammed version from Marley Lilly gives a fun twist to an old favorite.

Tote-ally Awesome Bag I'm Loving, Part 1:  Longchamp's bags are an investment but they'll go with everything and last forever.  And the new personalized Le Cabas style has me head over heels - you pick the shape, size, leather color, lining and monogram to make a bag that's as one-of-a-kind as you are!

Tote-ally Awesome Bag I'm Loving, Part 2:  Want something a little easier on the wallet than the Longchamp?  The Buckle Tote from Tiny Tulip should fit the bill.

Adorable Accessory I'm Loving:  This monogrammed pillow from Studio Design Lab is a pretty way to help personalize her space.

Necklace I'm Loving:  The Acrylic Block Monogram Necklaces from Moon and Lola are super mod and come in tons of fab colors.  I think I want one in kelly green.

Gadget Gear I'm Loving:  There are tons of great iPhone and iPad covers available out there but I love the modern feel of the ones from Pencil Shavings Studio.

Sweet Bracelet I'm Loving:  The dainty Initial Heart Charm bracelet from Hot Mix Cold is perfect to wear every day.

Bag to Go in a Bag I'm Loving:  I'm of the belief you can never have too many fun little pouches and these personalized pretties from JuJu Baju are just perfect.

So there you have some of my favorite monogrammed gift ideas for Mother's Day.  See something you like?  Just leave your browser open with this post up and hope your hubby happens to notice....  And to check out more of my must-haves, visit my Mama's Wish List Pinterest Board.
I'd love to hear about the things you're loving right now!  Share the app, movie, book, craft idea, TV show, whatever that's got you giddy in the comments and your picks might be included in next week's TEN ON TUESDAY feature.  And for more of my favorite things, check out my Pinterest boards!
Please note that this list is made up of things I actually use, read, watch, try, etc. and truly enjoy.  These opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way to share them here.Blog Widget by LinkWithin
