Sweet Andy's Cookies giveaway

To contact us Click HERE

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about my latest food obsession, Sweet Andy's Cookies.  Shopping mall cookies, bakery cookies, even my homemade cookies have ceased to tempt me since I tasted Sweet Andy's moist, chewy bites of heaven.  These cookies are so good, they earned 3Po's highest level of praise:

Mom, I love these cookies so much, I'm willing to use my own allowance to buy some for myself!

Given that he only earns $3 per month, even a single bag of Sweet Andy's Cookies would be a huge investment for him.  Yes, I'm cheap, but I'm not mean.  I wasn't planning to make poor 3Po save his hard-earned money to get more Sweet Andy's Cookies, so I bought some myself.  Right now, Sweet Andy's is offering free shipping on 6 bags of cookies, so I took advantage and ordered some for the family.  6 bags might sound like a lot, but there always seems to be a teacher or teacher's aide celebrating a birthday, and a bag makes a great present!  Also, the cookies freeze really well -- we froze 2 bags, then a week after we took the cookies out of the bag, put them on a plate and warmed them in the microwave.  They were just perfect!

The Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip varieties were big hits, and Alfie adores the Oatmeal Raisin, so I ordered those, but this time I just had to try their Lemon Cookie.  If you like sugar cookies you'll love Sweet Andy's Lemon Cookie -- it has the taste (sweet but not too sweet) and texture (soft and chewy) of their Sugar Cookie, but with a hint of lemon.  I kind of wish that hint of lemon had been stronger, but it's still a great cookie, especially paired with a glass of milk :)

I've still got five varieties left that I haven't tasted:  Pumpkin, Cinnamon Sugar, Peanut Butter Chip, Chocolate with Peanut Butter, and White Chocolate Macadamia but I think I need to give my waistline some time to recover.   I can't wait to order my next box of Sweet Andy's Cookies!

Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday

To contact us Click HERE

Dr. Seuss' birthday is exactly one week away from today, and my kids are excited to celebrate!  Okay, they're actually quite a bit older than they were in the Cat-In-The-Hat-photo above, but they still love Dr. Seuss. They watched The Lorax twice on the plane from Manila to San Francisco, and shhh... don't tell them I'm writing this, but they still ask me to read The Lorax out loud to them at bedtime!

For those of you who love Dr. Seuss (and who doesn't!), here are some fun ways to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday:

Have some Green Eggs & Ham!  If that grosses you out, top regular scrambled eggs with broccoli -- or do away with the eggs and ham entirely, and bake a Green Eggs & Ham cake.

One Fish, Two Fish Math (I think Rainbow Goldfish Crackers must have been invented by Dr. Seuss!).

Watch PBS KIDS!  They are debuting new episodes of The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That ("Rumbly Tumbly / Planet Name Game” and  “Top of the Sky / Jiggle Bones"), as well as a new online game commemorating Dr. Seuss' birthday week.

Join my Dr. Seuss giveaway!  You could win a DVD copy of The Cat in the Hat: Safari, So Good.  The giveaway ends March 3, so hurry and enter!

Ah, yes. Here it is.
        Nope, still wrong one.
Maybe this is it!!!!

No?
Fine, I give up. Maybe they're not so cute.
Especially when they start playing with inflatable sex toys.

Or practicing their kung fu on you.

Or . . . you get the idea.

 (old person impression) Stupid kids.

Hailee & I are both fans of Yo Gabba Gabba, last year we attended There's a Party in My City Live. It was a blast. NCircle Entertainment send us the DVD Yo Gabba Gabba Live!: There's a Party in My City. It was great to watch and remember the fun time we had at the live show. I love singing along to. Yo Gabba Gabba has some weird characters but teaches kids great things. I'm always catching myself singing even when the show isn't on.

Join D.J. Lance Rock, Brobee, Toodee, Foofa, Plex, Muno and all of our favorite Yo Gabba Gabba! friends for their first-ever live concert! It is a non-stop musical extravaganza.  Get up on your feet to sing and dance along over ten Gabba favorites, including: “There’s a Party in My Tummy,” “Name Game” and “Get The Sillies Out.”
This full-length concert is packed with special guests including beatboxing legend Biz Markie performing Biz’s Beat of the Day, the incomparable Leslie Hall & DO IT teaching a Dancey Dance, and Super Music Friends Show guest The Aquabats performing everyone’s favorite, “Pool Party.”  Yo Gabba Gabba! Along with the DVD we were also sent a copy of It's Okay to Try Again! Hailee loves to read this book! It teaches kids a great lesson! I love that the book is a board book, although Hailee knows better and treats books with respect the book will last so much longer!

Perfect for toddlers and preschoolers who sometimes get a little bit frustrated when things don't go their way, this book teaches them that it's okay to try, try, try again. Based on one of the top-rated and most-popular Gabba songs "It's Okay, Try Again."

Giveaway: Cooking with Hidden Valley Ranch {Giveaway}

To contact us Click HERE

When people think of pantry staples, they usually think of bread, pasta, ketchup, flour, sugar, coffee, spices, peanut butter, mayo.    Here's one more item your pantry should never be without:  Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing.  I always have a bottle on hand!  Everyone in our family loves it, and not just as a salad dressing.  We dip everything into it:  french fries, veggies, breadsticks, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, even pizza crusts!  We top chili with it, we spread it on sandwiches instead of mayo, we pour it on baked potatoes.  There's just something about that tangy creaminess that's irresistible!  Why, just this morning I used Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing to add some zing to my kids' lunch wraps:

Roast Beef Ranch Wrap
1 large spinach tortilla
1/4 cup American salad mix (iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, carrots)
2 Tablespoons Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® Dressing
3 Tablespoons grated sharp cheddar cheese
3 deli-thin slices roast beef
1 Tablespoon whipped cream cheese

Lay the salad mix in the center of the tortilla.  Spread the dressing on top of the salad, then sprinkle the cheese over the dressing.  Lay the roast beef slices on top of the cheese.

Spread cream cheese around the edges of the tortilla.  Roll up the filling inside the tortilla, burrito-style. The cream cheese will help seal the edges.  Cut in half and serve.

Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing also makes a great flavor base for sauces and other recipes.   You can use it in gourmet recipes like Chef Russell Jackson whipped up for an amazing blogger lunch I attended last year, or you can use it recipes so simple that even my husband can tackle.  Here's a recipe that we tried recently (from the Hidden Valley Ranch website)

Original Ranch Ravioli
Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients:
½ cup roasted red and yellow peppers, rinsed and drained and cut into thin strips
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 cup Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® Dressing
1 package (9 ounces) fresh meat or cheese ravioli

Instructions:
Cook the pasta according to the package instructions and drain.
In a large skillet, over a medium heat, combine the pasta, peppers, and dressing and stir until well blended and heated through. Serve garnished with the cheese.

We used mushroom ravioli, with a fresh porcini mushroom filling, and the dish was amazing.  You wouldn't believe how much difference that dressing makes!  It combines with the tangy sweetness of the peppers, and it really works.  I never would have thought of using Hidden Valley Ranch as a pasta sauce -- it's just one more reason why I never like to run out of it!
